Dan Linn, BCT, Fort Bliss, Texas - McGregor Range, July 1969

Dan Linn, BCT, B/2/2, Fort Bliss, Texas. This photo was taken in the Chihuahuan Desert in southern New Mexico at the McGregor Range, which serves as the Rifle Range/Bivouac area for Fort Bliss. It also serves as a missile and air defense training range for the U.S. Army. Seeing missiles being fired and unmanned drones in the air during BCT was common. The range is about 30 miles wide and 70 miles long. The northern portion of the range is about 20 miles from Alamogordo, New Mexico and near the southern end of the White Sands Missile Range. The Rifle Range was about 20 miles north of the main base of Fort Bliss and El Paso, Texas so it was about a 30 minute cattle car or truck ride just to get to the range.
