Normally there are no days off during Basic Combat Training, but on July 20, 1969 President Richard Nixon ordered the “Moon Landing Holiday” for the military. For those of us in basic training at Fort Bliss we got a day off. I flew my wife out to El Paso, Texas for the “Moon Landing Holiday”.
